If you're looking for a way to manage your medical claims, your online member account is the way to go.

To get started, log in to your account online or through our free BCBSMT App and click on Claims.

You can view claims from the past 18 months. You can also search and filter claims to help find the information you need. Filter by member, claim type, claim status and health service provider. You can also download or print claims information.

When you download your claims information, you can select one or more claims and download the information to one spreadsheet. The file will show the type of claim and itemized cost information.

Each claim comes with an Explanation of Benefits, a quick guide to help you better understand your claims information. Your EOB will break down the services you received, the cost of the services and what you might have to pay.

Want updates about your claims status? Log in to your member account. Go to My Account, Profile and Preferences and open Notification Preferences. Choose alerts by email, text or both.

GLP-1s are a class of drugs commonly used to treat Type 2 diabetes. But some GLP-1s are also FDA approved for treating obesity and obesity-related conditions.

Here’s what you need to know.

What are GLP-1s?
GLP-1 is a hormone that helps control blood sugar and increase insulin production. While your body naturally produces GLP-1, how much is made can slow because of things like chronic stress, poor gut health and hormone changes.

GLP-1 drugs, or GLP-1s, can help cause the same responses in the body when the body’s hormone isn’t working as well as it should.

How do GLP-1s work for weight loss?
GLP-1s also slow down how quickly food digests and leaves your stomach, so you feel full faster and longer after eating.

Combined, this can help you lose weight.

And make sure to combine your prescription with healthy lifestyle changes like diet and exercise. Using GLP-1s alone won’t give you lasting results.

What are the benefits of using GLP-1s for weight loss?
Along with diet and exercise, GLP-1s help with weight loss by curbing your appetite. They make you feel full faster so that you eat less.

Which GLP-1s are FDA approved for weight loss?
Several types of GLP-1s are approved for weight loss and other conditions besides diabetes. The brand names to look for are Wegovy® (semaglutide), Saxenda (liraglutide) and Zepbound® (tirzepatide). FDA approval means doctors can prescribe them for weight loss.

What are the risks and side effects of GLP-1s?
The most reported side effects are nausea, diarrhea and stomach pain, and reactions at the injection site.

Some underlying health issues can put you at risk of worse side effects, like gallbladder problems or swelling of the pancreas.

Are GLP-1s through online sources safe?
It’s important to use GLP-1s only under the care of a doctor you know and trust.

There are many products being sold online that may not be approved by the FDA. Drugs that are not FDA-approved may not be as safe or effective. Check the FDA website for concerns about using these drugs that could put your health at risk.

Does insurance cover GLP-1s for weight loss?
Most plans don’t cover GLP-1s for weight loss. However, doctors can prescribe GLP-1s without it being a covered benefit. This means you will pay out-of-pocket for the prescription.

Check your plan benefits. If part of your benefits, you likely will need approval from your health plan before you start treatment. Be sure to talk to your doctor about your options. Work together to decide what is best for you.

Picking the right doctor for your needs is important. There’s a lot to think about when deciding where to get health care – cost, network, location and more. Your health plan gives you access to many kinds of providers. Before you go for care, make sure the provider is in your health plan network. Choosing a provider in your plan’s network can help keep your costs down.

Our resources make your search easier
If you have a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana plan, search for providers in your network by logging in to your secure member account.

There are two ways you can get there.

Download the BCBSMT App from the Apple App Store or Google Play. You can get it in English or Spanish.
Log in to your member account.

Once you are logged in, click on the Find Care section to:

Find in-network doctors, hospitals and other providers in your health plan’s network
Search by specialty, ZIP code, language spoken, gender and more
Compare quality and awards for doctors, hospitals and more
Compare estimated costs for in-network providers*
Find details about providers’ certifications and recognitions

What are in-network providers?
Health care providers who have agreed to give care to you and other members in your health plan are called network providers. They may also be called in-network or participating providers. Those without a contract to provide care are out-of-network providers. Be sure to stay in network to save money with discounted rates.

Not a member or just want to search as a guest?
If you're not a BCBSMT member, you can still search online as a guest. Before searching, have some information ready:

Name of the health plan you’re considering
Your ZIP code, or the ZIP code of where you want care
The type of care you need

I sent a question using the secure message feature in Blue Access for Members. How long will it take to get an answer?

Once we receive your message within Blue Access for Members^SM, a customer advocate will make sure your question is addressed by all the right people. You’ll get a response from our team within two business days to let you know we are looking into your question. It may take up to several weeks to get a full answer.

Here’s why:

Our customer service teams are split by specialty. This ensures our members are helped by employees with the most training and resources. If your BAM inquiry is about several concerns (billing, claims, membership, etc.), an answer may take a bit longer. We try to answer all concerns at once.

If you have an urgent request, call customer service at the number on your ID card. Billing questions close to a payment due date, pharmacy refill requests, health concerns and similar issues are best resolved with a phone call. Our staff is available 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT to answer your questions. We know you don’t like being on hold, but sometimes waiting to speak to a customer advocate directly, rather than waiting for an email response that could take a week or two, is the best choice.

Paperless EOBs

How do I get claims status without paper statements?

It’s easy! You can view your Explanation of Benefits documents online through your secure member account. Be sure to have your member ID card handy when you register.

You can access your account any time by downloading our free BCBSMT App. The BCBSMT App is available in English and Spanish for iPhone and Android users. Download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Or you can register for Blue Access for Members^SM to access your secure account.

After logging in to your account, you can choose to “go paperless.”

Go to My Account in the top right corner.
Choose Profile and Preferences.
Make sure you have added your email address and mobile number under Contact Information.
Select Notification Preferences in the left navigation list.
Opt-in to Go Paperless by checking the box.
Choose Email and/or Text notifications for each type of information you get.

Q: How will I know my claim has been finalized?
A: You'll get an email or text notification when you can view your statement online.

Q: What if I like to keep paper copies for my records?
A: Let us be your file cabinet. Statements are kept online for 18 months. During that time, you can view, save and print your statements whenever you like. If it’s been more than 18 months, call us at the number on your ID card to request a copy.

Q: Is my information safe online?
A: Yes. We use the latest technology to maintain the privacy of your information. Your information is available through Blue Access for Members, secured behind firewalls.

Q: What if I want to opt back in?
A: You have total control. Switching back is as easy as updating your preferences in the BCBSMT App or Blue Access for Members.

One of the benefits of using Blue Access for Members^SM is the ease of being able to locate health insurance forms when you need them.

Forms and Documents quickly puts forms at your fingertips. Whether you need to file a claim or order a refill prescription, these forms are securely stored and accessible through Blue Access for Members.

The health insurance forms you can access will be determined by the health care plan you are enrolled in. Here are just a few that you may be looking for:

Medical and dental claim forms
All HIPAA privacy forms, including the Confidential Communications Request, Access Request Form and Standard Authorization Form.
Order forms for both new and refill prescriptions
Continuation of Coverage

To get started, here are a few helpful tips:

When searching, start with All Forms and Documents.
Use the down arrow next to the form title and a description will appear below.
Click on “View” to open the form in a new window and download if needed.

You can use the search box to find a form.

As a member of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana, your Blue Access for Members^SM account puts important health plan information at your fingertips.

Set up your BAM account to:

Find a doctor or hospital in-network
Check claim status and history
Share your update preference (email or SMS text messages)
Review billing and payment history
Read helpful tips and wellness articles
Connect with a Customer Advocate

To get started, you'll need:

A valid personal email address to confirm your registration
The member ID number on your ID card and member welcome letter

To register for BAM, follow these simple steps:

Go to the Log In page. Choose Create an Account.
Review the Terms of Use. If you agree to the terms detailed, click I Accept.
On the next page, enter your name, date of birth, and the member ID number on your BCBSMT member ID card.
On the following page, enter your personal email address and set up your username and password.
- Your username must be at least eight characters and include only letters and numbers.
- Your password must have at least eight characters and include an uppercase and lowercase letter, a number and special character.
Once you’ve completed this section, click Create Login to go to the Email Confirmation page. Look for an email confirming your new account and click Verify.
Once you receive your confirmation, you’ll be asked to return to the login page to sign in using your new username and password.

If you prefer, you can use the BCBSMT App to register. The BCBSMT App makes it easy to access BAM on the go. With it, you can make the most of your benefits — anytime, anywhere.

Planning to visit the doctor or fill a prescription at a new pharmacy soon? You’ll want to have your member ID card handy. If you’ve misplaced or lost yours, you can download, print or request a new card on Blue Access for Members^SM.

Here’s a quick look at what you need to know:

Print or download a member ID card
If you need a member ID card today for an appointment or pharmacy visit, you can get one on BAM^SM. Log in to BAM. If you haven’t registered yet, you’ll need your group and individual member ID numbers. You can find both on the welcome letter you received from us. After you log in, click on "Member ID Card” at the top. From there, you can view and download a digital ID card.

Request a new ID card
You can also order a new ID card. Log in to BAM. If you haven’t registered yet, you’ll need your group and individual member ID numbers. You can find both on the welcome letter you received from us. After you log in, click on "Member ID Card” at the top. From there, click on "Order a New Member ID Card.” Confirm your address and submit your request. Your card will be sent to you within two weeks.

If you have questions about getting a new member ID care or about benefits, claims or other information related to your Blue Access for Members account, call customer service at the number listed on your member ID card.
