In less than five hours, nearly 100 people, including close to 50 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana employees, helped transform a dirt field into a playground on August 18 in Bozeman.
The new playground provides a place to play not only for children in Bozeman, but also from all across the state, since it is part of the Bozeman Sports Park. The Bozeman Sports Park is currently being constructed, and when it is completed it will feature 12 fields for soccer, lacrosse and rugby.
The construction project marked the fifth consecutive year that BCBSMT partnered with KaBOOM! to build a playground. And, thanks in large part to the blue wave of volunteers, this year’s playground was built in record time. In fact, the playground was essentially done before lunch was served.
“This was a unique build, because it was the first time we’ve completed a playground at an active construction site,” said Jesse Zentz, BCBSMT Manager of Community Relations. “We kind of had a blank slate to work with and that really sped up the process during construction.
“We’re all really excited to see what this park looks like when it’s complete. I can guarantee the playground will be a central component and will entertain thousands of kids for years to come.”
Bozeman Parks and Recreation was this year’s community partner, and together they worked with BCBSMT and KaBOOM! to bring a colorful place to play to Gallatin Valley.
Other sites throughout Montana that now have a playground as part of the BCBSMT-KaBOOM! partnership are East Helena, Billings, St. Ignatius and Great Falls.
